With the already immense and growing number of security threats in cyberspace, it can be necessary to protect your computer behind more than one layer of security. This is especially true when using broadband Internet because it is less secure than a DSL line, but it is faster. The better performance makes it a preferred choice for many users. To compensate for the general security weakness, there should always be a router in between a broadband Internet connection and the computers that use it. The router also allows several computers in one house to share one connection. Additionally, it can provide wireless access for laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and other wi-fi enabled devices. Most routers come with pre-installed firewalls that each device or computer on the network can hide behind. This works in addition to any existing firewall software installed on the computer, creating 2 layers of safety. Anti-virus and anti-spyware software are also essential to prevent infections. These things alone can prevent a wide range of attacks and intrusions targeted towards users at home.
